Chantel and Levi were married on 05/21/2010. Getting to know Chantel through a few email conversations left me with the understanding that she had a fun and vivacious personality.

She obliged me in answering a few questions about her wedding planning experience.

1. What five words could you use to describe your wedding? Fun, exhausting, crazy, surprising, and exciting.

2. What has been your best wedding planning experience so far? This is kind of pathetic, but finding my wedding shoes. I'm not even a shoe person, but these were so amazing and exactly what I had in mind, and they were on sale for 80% off. I still get excited looking at them. Also, finding the perfect reception site - it has absolutely everything we wanted without breaking the bank.

3. Can you give one bit of advice for other brides planning? Be flexible. Almost all of the ideas I had at the beginning of the planning have been tweaked, changed or dropped completely, including my vision of the perfect dress for me. Be willing to look outside of your "perfect day" plan and be willing to think a little outside of your comfort zone on some things.

4. What is the one detail you couldn't do without for your wedding day? A wedding planner. I am constantly late, and easily overstressed, so having a wedding planner is a Godsend for keeping me on track with what needs to be done and making sure I don't have to do anything but enjoy myself on my wedding day. That and a really fantastic pair of wedding shoes ;)

Great Cause: Photo Shoot for Chile - HM Photography

My dear friend Heidi, with HM Photography, is not only an amazing photographer, but a beautiful Chilean. On Saturday, the devastation of the 8.8 earthquake hit near her home town. Her family was unharmed but they are now homeless. Following the earthquake was the tsunami that hit the coast. The country is in need of help.

I know that many of you have probably donated to the recent earthquake recovery efforts for Haiti, but please let us not overlook this new tragedy in Chile.

Heidi has offered the opportunity to have a photo shoot where 100% of the proceeds go towards relief efforts of her country. For all of you brides considering boudoir shoots, or perhaps know family members that would like a portrait session, this is a chance to help this nation. Lately I've sort of become obsessed with cupcakes. Honestly they're like the most considerate desserts. You have one, it feels like it is made for you, and it is never too much. Just your single serving of sweet satisfaction.

First Blush Bride wants to extend a big CONGRATULATIONS to Cocoa&Fig who opened yesterday in their downtown Minneapolis location in the Gaviidae Common Skyway level.

Last night I was really lucky to try for the first time, a fantastic cupcake adorned with the most adorable red heart. I was living on the edge and went for a Pistachio French Macaron too. Delicious!

This shop is perfect for wedding cakes, wedding cake alternatives, wedding showers, or bachelorette parties. Who couldn't use a bit of sweet lovin??

First Blush Bride Couple: Kristine and Matt - McNamara Alumni Center August 8, 2009

I met Kristine and Matt at a barbecue in the summer of 2008, they were freshly engaged and just beaming. I was really honored and happy when they decided they wanted to work with me.

Their wedding was at the McNamara Alumni Center on August 8, 2009. Kristine was calm and collected, Matt was the same. He has such a sweet nature about him, they make a great pair.

The wedding details involved romantic elements with a bit of whimsy and fun. There were gorgeous lace detailed bridesmaid dresses, and beautiful floral arrangements. One of my favorite parts of the wedding was the candy buffet. I had quite a bit of fun playing with the display and tasting a few pieces here or there. They had a mojito special for the cocktail hour and a photo booth by TTPB. It was a gorgeous day.

Okay, a bit more photog love.

I met Melissa last week and was smitten. She wore a fantastic outfit with a printed skirt and a striped shirt. I love a perfectly paired patterned mix (and alliteration apparently). :)

She is a sweet and sassy redhead with real charm. Plus she's got some talent that no one could argue with. Her photography captures priceless moments and couple's love. You almost feel like you're getting a sneak peak into their world via her lens. Sometimes, a photo can really snatch at your heartstrings... bet that they'll grab at yours.

Chow Down with Chowgirls

I recently attended an event sponsored by The Knot in which the food was catered by Chowgirls. May I just say that I was not disappointed. There were only hors d'œuvres and light desserts, but that was enough to excite my taste buds. I could definitely have a few more Rumaki , Chinese Chicken Dumplings, and Fennel Maple and Bacon Tartlets. Also the staff was extremely accommodating to some specific requests of our party.

If you haven't tried the Minnesota Bride "Best Caterer (under 100 guests)" award for 2009, I would email for a tasting. They are brilliant.

The food is fresh and fantastic. They are highly recommended

I am pretty much obsessed with Martha Stewart Weddings. I pick up a copy of the magazine every time I see a new issue out. I found one at Blockbuster and the cashier asked if I was getting married. I blushed, and showed her my ring. I told her that I'm a wedding planner and that this magazine was my favorite.

In a previous issue, a Minneapolis couple was featured. Their photos were shot by Red Ribbon Studio. My favorite pictures were shot in front of a wall mural. The play on colors with the neutrally dressed bridal party was brilliant. I love this wedding.

First Blush Wedding: Heidi and Mike

We were on a boat!

I can't begin to say how much fun I had with this couple. Heidi is a brilliant photographer, loving mother, and a dear friend of mine. Mike, is her perfect match. They blend so wonderfully together.

I had the honor to officiate their ceremony aboard the Betsy Northrup as we cruised along the Mississippi River. The ceremony took place on July 3, 2009. The grand finale was a beautiful display of fireworks as we docked for the night.

Flutter Boutique in Minneapolis is a great spot for some very posh dresses your bridesmaids will be swooning over. The season is coming upon us for these dresses to be selected. I definitely hope that brides out there get a chance to check out this little Metro gem!!

I have been a constant fan of Lela Rose since I started planning my own wedding about two years ago. I loved her attention to detail and her ultra femme styling. She has a fantastic line of bridesmaid dresses to get a chic bridal party. Because, hey, those pictures last forever! ;)

The cupcake trend is picking up with high speed. With a variety of flavors and the perfect serving size, they offer a great alternative to the almond raspberry three tiered standard dessert.

Recently at a wedding, I was fortunate to try two very tasty cupcakes in lieu of wedding cake. The bride ordered hers from Cupcake in Minneapolis on University. Last week, in celebration of my birthday as well as a good friend, I stopped to try a few more in their selection.

They serve a variety of 70 cupcakes with miniature sizes available. The names are sure to charm your guests. I bought and tried a Claire Huxtable, Carol Brady, and Coney Island. Definitely tasty. Other fun names include Paris Hilton, as well as I Love Lucy.

If you are shopping for a wedding cake alternative, I highly suggest Cupcake bakery.

Erin & Ryan - August 15, 2009

Erin and Ryan, I can't even start to say how I enjoyed the planning journey with her. Their wedding was just three weeks before my own. She and I often traded emails just over excitement.

Erin is one of those girls that you just want to know more about. When I was around her, I always felt like I've known her forever. I could not put my finger on it.

As I was setting up the escort cards at the venue, I came across the names of a family that I spent many weekends with in my hometown in South Dakota. Yes, in South Dakota. Then, the connection was made, and Erin and her family had visited South Dakota, and we had met each other as children. Talk about crazy small world.

The day was really beautiful. Erin and Ryan, were just emitting love. It was stunning. The ceremony was at Diamond Lake Lutheran Church, and the reception was at the Blaisdell Manor.

The photographer, is the great Spencer Combs, another fun element of the wedding. :) There were so many good pictures it was hard to limit myself. She emailed me this morning with the link to the online album. After being there with her for so long in planning, I was honored to be part of their day.

My Meeting with Knot Annie

The Knot ladies came from their fabulous NYC offices to our humble Minneapolis a few weeks back. There was a Knot sponsored get together, with hosted drinks and hors d'voeuvres. ( The dessert was so good!!) The gathering was held at Cosmos at the Graves 601 Hotel. We all left with goodie bags from The Knot, and photo strips courtesy of the Traveling Photo Booth.

I also managed to coordinate well with Knot Annie's outfit. She was a stunner! We got to chat about wedding trends, New York life, travel, and just girl talk. She was such a sweetheart, and I was honored with the opportunity!

As some of you may have noticed across many a wedding blog, succulents seem to be popping up all over the place. Personally, I couldn’t be more thrilled as I absolutely adore them. I think they’re such a fun and unusual plant and they seem to go with so many different wedding styles.

For those just learning about these little gems, succulent plants are “water-retaining plants adapted to arid climate or soil conditions. Succulent plants store water in their leaves, stems and/or roots. The storage of water often gives succulent plants a more swollen or fleshy appearance than other plants, also known as succulence.” – Wikipedia

The most well-known succulents are probably the cactus and various versions of tender succulents such as aloe. Here’s a look at some of my favorites that are a little more unusual.

Ok, but now on to the good stuff! “How do these desert-dwelling beauties make their way into my wedding,” you ask? The options are endless! Centerpieces, boutonnieres, bouquets, favors, escort cards, bouquets, these are just a few ideas. Here is some inspiration to get you started!

Check out these gorgeous centerpieces below! I love the look of different succulents potted together, especially with the 3D table number! The purples and blues in the second row would be amazing for a fall wedding and the mixture of tiny plants with white and orange roses is just too sweet for words.

From just this small collection of photos I think you can see how succulents would work with many different wedding decors; modern, woodsy, dramatic, romantic, the list goes on and on!

While centerpieces may be the first place one would think to use succulents I think they’re equally fabulous in bouquets and boutonnieres. Look at the amazing colors in the first bouquet and how cute is the combination with billy balls?

Since succulents are used to thriving in tough conditions they can be grown just about anywhere year-round. I can picture succulents as cake decoration, in the bride’s hair, lining an aisle, as I said earlier, the possibilities are endless! Vendor Rave: The Traveling Photo Booth

I'm working with the guys from The Traveling Photo Booth, and they are excellent in handling communication that really feels personable. Any questions you might have concerning the booths, the packages, or just in general, they're more than willing to spend time with you on the phone to discuss it.

I've met some of the reps at the wedding fairs and local events. While there, my fiance and I were able to test out the photo booth. My fiance was skeptical at first, "Do we really need to spend the money on this reception extra?" Once in the booth, and strip in hand, he was hooked!

The TTPB offers really fun additions to the booths themselves, including prop kits, new acrylic frames, a guestbook, and thank you cards with your favorite strip.

St. Patrick's Day is one of my favorite holidays. My mother is a red-haired, freckled faced cutie, named Maggi, go figure. You can only imagine that I've always had a good time wearing my green and celebrating my Irish heritage.

Here are some fantastic ways to incorporate Irish traditions into your wedding.

Claddagh Ring - This ring is normally handed down from mother to daughter that can be used as both betrothal ring and wedding ring. The crown is worn inside towards the wrist during the engagement, and the opposite upon marriage.

Horseshoe - Carried with the bride for good luck. While older traditions allowed for a real horseshoe, there are more stylish(not to mention smaller) options available. Make sure to keep the U facing up in order for all the good luck not to spill out. My sister carried a horseshoe charm attached to her bouquet. I plan to do the same.

Handfasting - This tradition is where the term "tying the knot" came from. The couple would be bound for a year to see if they could stand each other for that long. Now, a cord is tied around the couples hand during the ceremony to demonstrate the tradition.

DIY Cake Topper: Goose Grease

I recently ordered a DIY kit from Goose Grease to make our own cake toppers. I was sold on the idea after watching the Martha Stewart's The Art of Wedding Cakes II.

The kit available included a family of 6. Since we are nowhere near that, I am happy to have just made Anwar and me. The kit comes with two brushes, and a paint set of six colors, as well as a non-toxic varnish. The DIY kit was $10, and with shipping, the whole package came to about $14. Not too shabby.

Here is my work in progress as well as the finished product. I am more than happy with how they turned out!

Bridal Salon Rave: Priscilla of Boston

I had previously written on the salon located in the shops of 50th and France. On Thursday, I visited the Priscilla of Boston salon to have my bridesmaid try on dresses. The staff was remarkable. They were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. I worked with Annie, and she provided stellar service.

The salon itself was bright and beautiful. Towering gilded mirrors, elegant lighting, and antique inspired display cases provided an ambiance of exclusive luxury. I was more than impressed with the setting I found myself in.

The staff provides an email exchange program with your bridal party members. They will provide information for your choice of style and cut. They allow for flexibility with measurement appointments, and ordering over the phone for your out of town maids.

The price ranges my shy some budget conscious brides away. There are five lines of dresses within the salon. The price ranges vary. Platinum, Melissa Sweet, Priscilla of Boston, Reverie, and Vineyard. Vineyard is the most affordable line, with bridal gowns averaging around $2,000.00. The Vineyard bridesmaid dresses are elegant and affordable as well, the one I selected was priced at $198.00.

Along with bridal gowns and bridal party dresses, the salon offers accessories by Le Mystere, Maria Elena, Debra Moreland, Blue Tux, and Haute Bride.

DIY Invite Shopping: Paper Source

No big surprise... I love this store. I put quarters in the meter to manage my time in the store or I might spend hours browsing the endless opportunities in paper. The staff is helpful, and knowledgeable. They knew the different paper weights, mailing information, and details for DIY.

While there, I settled on the color combination I will be using for my own invitations. They will be: Gravel, Moss, and Luxe White. The ink colors will mimic the Gravel, and I'll add Eggplant graphics to tie in the complete color scheme. The Luxe White is a high quality paper that allows for easy ink jet printing. While I won't be using it for my wedding invites, I was quite taken by their Blush color... I thought it quite fitting[wink].

Just a heads up... the colors from the website do the actual paper no justice. I suggest visiting the store to see for yourself. The Paper Source is on 31st and Hennepin in Uptown.

Ready...Set...Stay

When it comes to wedding day make-up, one thing is for sure, you want it to last. A freshly made up face isn't always easy to keep up with tears, hugs, kisses, heat, nerves.... you get the point.

One thing in particular that is infamous for wearing out faster than a Vegas Drive through wedding... is eyeliner. How do you keep it in place, without it smearing or melting away?

If you are in love with your current eyeliner, try sweeping some translucent powder below the lined eye, and dusting your lid with powder before application. (Note: your regular powder will do the trick too)

If you are in the market, or have about $10 to spend on a long lasting eyeliner... I would suggest L'Oreal's H.I.P. Color Truth Cream Eyeliner. Don't be afraid to buy it in a nontraditional color such as Midnight Blue. I wear it all the time, and it is definitely a highlight. People notice that the color isn't brown or black, and they take the time to look a bit closer. I would also suggest the Eggplant as an alternative.

This eyeliner comes with it's own brush, and it honestly lasts all day. No smearing, no melting. Just soft lined eyes.

Desinger dress... Bridesmaid price

Recently on the Minneapolis Knot board, a bride posted her dress at a steal of a price... It was a bridesmaid dress, and stunning. My sister went this route as well. She was a DIY and budget bride whose wedding dress was technically made for maids....

This option is not only reasonable, but clever. High-end designers are selling their bridesmaid dresses at a small fraction of the big ticket wedding gowns available. Most of the silhouettes are simple, but the ease of the dress is perfect for a more casual setting. Some of the dresses offer more intricate designs which can easily pass for a formal affair. Destination weddings, or reception dresses are also prime occasions for a dress for less. Here are a few that I found quite pretty for any bride.

Ye olde couple were getting hitched at the Renaissance Festival in Shakopee. This was a first for me. The festival was the perfect setting. Carnations have come quite a way from that episode... Carrie loved them, Charlotte loathed them. I always did like Carrie a touch more than Charlotte. haha.

Well, when considering my centerpieces, carnations are a very chic and affordable option. With massive amounts of the leafy blooms, all cheesy imagery sort of melts away. A thick blanket of petals sort of creates a lawn of any color you would like.

Wtoo Spring Collection: Bridesmaids

I have searched and have been disappointed with so many bridesmaid attire options. I was at Borders earlier this week, and found myself thumbing through the newest issue of Brides Magazine. They had this fabulous layout for chocolate and gold, in which a dress was featured from Wtoo.

I loved the dress so much that I have FINALLY decided that this will be the dress for my girls. The price is reasonable for the style, and ease of the dress. The color options were limited, and I did choose to go with black. My dearest friend made an inspiration board with a mixture of photos. My colors have now been upgraded to black, ivory, greens, and eggplant.

Venue rave: The Independent

As I previously mentioned, my birthday party was this past Saturday at the Independent in Uptown.

The party room is available for parties from 20-50 people. To reserve the space, a $300 food and beverage minimum is required. With the Indy's great menu for appetizers and also special requests, guests are sure to be happy. I would personally suggest the Jalapeno Cream Cheese Wontons. They were the hit of the night!

With a vintage, pin-up feel to the space, it is easy to have any swank party that you might need to throw. It is a perfect spot for an engagement party, a hip rehearsal dinner, or even a small wedding cocktail reception.

The room also includes complimentary use of A/V equipment including a big screen TV, cable TV and music, CD/DVD changer, and a connection for an iPod/MP3 player or laptop. I made my own play list for the party, just plugged my ipod in. People were dancing in the hallway to my music.

A different way to say I love you. Real Wedding inspiration: Lisa and Chad

While upon first glance, you would never look at this couple in any other way than the ordinary. After taking a deeper look, they are anything but. Congratulations Lisa and Chad, 07/26/2008.

Fortunately for everyone, love speaks through all. The expression of their love spoke through their hands and can be felt just by looking at the bride and groom. American Sign Language was used to interpret their vows and for the guests and to each other. Their two nephews signed a 1-10/ A to Z story, which is considered ASL poetry to the Deaf Community.

Theirs was one of the most beautiful weddings I've seen when checking out the local Knot boards. When Lisa posted the link to her wedding photography, I was floored. The weather was perfect for their ceremony, and the Mississippi Dunes Golf Links fit the couple's love of the outdoors. The photography was done by Lori Momberg.

Boutonnieres are the finishing touch to your groom's attire. Often times it adds just the right amount of character to the suit or tux to really get that wedding look. Inspiration Wedding: Kristi and John

Here is a wedding that is inspiring for any DIY'er. It is a perfect example of a well crafted, beautiful day. Kristi and John were married on May 10, 2008. The weather was what some would call unforgiving; Kristi found the opportunity to turn it into a creative photo op. More than that, the couple shines with love throughout the entire day. The colors and vibrancy of the wedding puts the sun to shame, and it is no wonder it was hiding that day.

My particular favorite details include her birdcage veil, and handmade bolero. Also, the Sweet Memories guest book was an obvious hit. Their friends and family look as though they are having the best time of their life. A successful wedding for a happy couple.

Inspiring Venue: 413 on Wacouta, in the Gilbert Building

I met with Lynn not too long ago at her venue. She was charismatic, fun, and had amazing taste. She was recently married, on 08/08/08 at 413 on Wacouta. She and her husband recreated this building's lower level to please any bride looking for a unique venue for a reception.

The venue highlights beautiful exposed stone walls, great early 20th century architecture, and a rustic yet modern feel. The building was designed by Cass Gilbert, who also worked on several well known projects including the Woolworth Building in New York, and the US Supreme Court in Washington D.C. But enough of the history lesson, and on to the oooh and ahhs. I was struck by this venue as it was simply amazing.

Clutch me tight

I was going about business the other day, and I was thinking about a more sophisticated and practical gift for my bridesmaids. An idea sprung up, and I've decided to roll with it.

Hinge clutches are a popular and convenient way to take what you need and leave what you don't. If you are a bigger bag totin' girl...it adds to the ease of switching purses. I've selected a few styles in different price ranges for ideas. I found them on the websites of Target, Urban Outfitters, and Piperlime.

For the gift, there would be a hinge clutch selected for each lady. Within each clutch would be a selection of gift cards to common places that the girls would visit. That way, I have a customized gift, and they still get the choice to choose what they would like at that particular store. The gift cards I have in mind so far are: MAC, Barnes and Noble, Caribou Coffee, Target, and Macy's. I am sure that more options would be out there, currently those are the stores that come to mind.

Pin-Up Girl Photoshoot

For my birthday, 25th that is, I wanted to take photos to commemorate my quarter century on this earth. Also, I wanted to do the shoot because I thought it would be fun. Through a great friend, I was referred to Jen Coleman for my shoot. I was blown away with her energy, fun spirit, and professionalism. All of the shots were tastefully done. They were amped up sexy shots of me, and she made me feel beautiful, and comfortable in my skin. I am really excited to see the finished product!

Jen Coleman does wedding photography as well as life event photography. She is also available for boudoir photos, and a la carte photography shoots for whatever you are feeling. Here are a few shots from her website to highlight her talent as one of the Twin Cities' best.

Word to your mother, friends, uncle, second cousins....

Invitation wording can be tricky. The question presents itself on how to word the invite to make it more personal. You have your formal invite phrases: Request the honour of your presence...half past three in the afternoon.... Where do you and your fiancé fit in? Design is one element to make your invite personable to the two of you; another is a play on words.

Here is an example of a fantastic invitation set from Lunalux. The bride generously provided photos to highlight the rock star attitude of the couple. Here you see fun vocab swapping your typical verses for a feel of what the couple represents. Lily is an awesome songstress, and I have been lucky enough to hear her live. I couldn't imagine a more fitting invite for their wedding. My favorite part is the madlib RSVP card. I can't imagine too many guests passing up the opportunity to reply!

Graffiti is often seen as an urban outlet, of amazing artists, who are able to create masterpieces with a spray can. A spray can and often a good pair of running shoes. Well, like most aspects in life, it has been transformed into something even the most elegant of brides can appreciate.

To Chuck or not to Chuck

Chuck Taylor that is.... Converse shoes are popping up everywhere on the wedding front. Grooms don't want to stand uncomfortably in standard dress shoes, and why should they if there is a fashionable alternate. This style typically works best in a more casual, or modern setting. If you are having a posh, high glam wedding, I might suggest sticking to the standard shoes and getting insoles. [wink]

Anwar loves Chuck Taylors, so I won't be surprised if they find a way into our wedding day. A good friend of mine, Devan, does customized shoes. For Anwar's birthday last year, I had a pair made for his Japanese pop culture themed party. You can also customize your own shoes on the Converse.com website.

Brides can also get in the mix, with different styles that are feminine yet sporty. While I am not sure if I would wear these on my wedding day, I am going to snag a pair for our engagement photos for sure. I love the slip on style!
